Blue & Beanies

MHF FundraiserThis year, Mark Hughes and some fellow mates will be trekking Mt. Everest. Why? To raise funds for the Mark Hughes Foundation to continue their tackle against brain cancer.

Each year, Mark and some well known mates, like Paul “Chief” Harrigan, conquer something amazing to assist in the ongoing fundraising for the foundation. Last year, a team took on the Kokoda Coast to Coast Challenge (Bike – Trek – Bike) from 6 to 16 June. The challenge brought fears, tears, injuries, laughter, smile and accomplishment. It also raised a large sum for the Mark Hughes Foundation. So, this year it’s Everest.

And we’re helping!

We’ve launched our very own “$ for $” Mark Hughes Foundation fundraising campaign, which will donated in support of their Mt. Everest Trek. Don’t get me wrong, funds raised will not cover their costs, flights, or gear, it will be wholeheartedly, 100% donated to MHF.

IMG_4671The Club has set up a donation point in the foyer for all those who wish to donate, any amount. We’ve even got beanies for sale. If you missed out before, you can now purchase one from Reception. Which leads me to the whole point of this blog…’Blue & Beanies’ day.

On Friday 18 and Saturday 19 August, the Club will be allowing Staff, Management, Directors, Members and Guests to wear their MHF beanies in the Club, they’ll also be dressed in blue, to assist in raising awareness of our campaign and the “brain cancer tackle”.

Every dollar that is dropped into our donation point, every dollar calculated from the sale of beanies, will be totalled for the Club to match. In short, whatever the members, guests and staff have donated and raised, will double when the Club adds in its own donation.

If you’d like to assist MHF and the Club in tackling brain cancer, you can visit us in Club, head to our website or go direct via the MHF everyday hero page for Mt. Everest.

The Toronto Workers Club $ for $ campaign will end Saturday 7 October 2017.

The first of our parties in July are booking up and our party staff are as excited as the mini-pirates themselves.

Pirate Playland opened on Saturday 3 June with a grand opening complete with a 6 foot tall balloon pirate, pirate face painters, free food for the kids and more. Since then our ship has been a massive hit for children of all ages.

IMG_4453When you book a Pirate Party you receive exclusivity to the party room with direct access to Pirate Playland. Although, the pirate ship isn’t exclusive, it’s still the perfect setup for a party.

Since we’ve launched, we’ve had all sorts of questions raised. So we took the time to put together some Frequently Asked Questions. Which, we ask you read before sending through your online booking enquiry.

IMG_4452Recently we did a photo shoot of some very lucky mini-pirates who got to party and play while smiling for our cameras. We can’t wait to launch the advertising campaign with our mini-models. They did a fantastic job. So be sure to keep your eyes peeled for our major campaign.

If you’re interested to know more, or book your child’s party, check out our Pirate Party Booking Form and webpage. Our party staff  would love to discuss your plans.

Santa says Thanks!

Each year the Club dedicates months of preparation and ounces of volunteer dedication to deliver the Members’ Kids Christmas Party.

img_1879The volunteers are comprised of Directors, Management and Staff from Toronto Workers Club Group, the Macquarie Scorpions Rugby League Club and the fantastic Firemen from Toronto Fire Station. Each volunteer donates their time to ensure each child and adult has the most memorable and enjoyable experience. This dedication comes with happiness, enthusiasm and patience, even if they’ve worked the night before or will work that evening.

It takes approximately six months to effectively plan the party including the ordering of an obscene number of sausages (thanks Toronto Quality Meats) and onions (yes one of the Club’s Chef’s actually cut up 50kg of onion by hand), picking and packaging fun rides, obstacle img_2030courses and water attractions. But it doesn’t stop there…don’t forget the hand packed lolly bags.

Skip forward a few months and the volunteers, led by the Marketing Manager, Christine Wenta and Duty Manager, Michelle King, are excited for another overwhelming day! Volunteers meet with coffee and gazebos in hand from 7am to set up the entire event. Remember, most of these staff worked the night before, and not all are locals.

img_2001The day’s filled with four non-stop hours of fun in the sun, sausage sangas (with the right amount of sauce and onion), icy cold drinks, snow cones, Santa photos and much much more.

We are happy to report that the day was enjoyed by many and there was no hesitation in spreading the fantastic news…

“Was a great day for it and great value for money…the kids loved it thank you!”, Anthony Cause

“Thank you, it was a great day. The kids had a ball “, Debbie Dye

“Thank you for the hard work my family had a fabulous day out “, Kylie Montgomery

“Awesome day as always”, Nicole Carrall and,

“Thank you my grandson had a great day”, Alison Clapham Roberts.

Although the weather was questionable upon setup, the day turned out to be one of the biggest, most enjoyable and fun filled in a long time.

img_2017So, on behalf of the Board of Directors and Club Managers, I would like to personally thank the Toronto Workers Club Group team volunteers, team leaders Christine and Michelle and the Macquarie Scorpions Rugby League volunteers. The Members’ Kids Christmas Party would not go ahead without this dedication, enthusiasm and of course, a lot of coffee!

Your photo with Santa can be found on the Club Website and Facebook page. Feel free to download them, share them and print them.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas,

Santa Claus

Lisa’s Last Hurrah

lisas-logo_rgbThis week we say goodbye to a member of the Toronto Country Club family, Lisa.

I met with Lisa and her son Dan for lunch for the final time. Throughout Lisa’s time at the Country Club she has made some wonderful friends, catered many perfect private functions and golf presentations and delivered fresh food for lunch and dinner, with her gluten free desserts being a favourite among many.

While chatting with Lisa it was evident that she will miss the “homely” feeling the Country Club hosts and is sad to be leaving.

“I’m looking forward to taking some time out for myself and having some fun adventures with Dan”, said Lisa. While Lisa has had many offers and may open up another business, for now, she’s going to enjoy leisure time with the family.

While this is a sad time for all of us who have come to know and love Lisa, Darryl, Dan, Jo and ‘Lisa’s at Toronto Country Club’, it is also a time to celebrate with Lisa one last time.

img_2575Lisa will cater her final dinner at the Country Club on Saturday 5 November 2016. With her “last hurrah” coming up, we recommend booking in advance. Lunch and dinner service times are available for Lisa’s last day. To make a reservation, please phone the Club on (02) 49591584.

So where to from here? Well, we can’t let the perfect view of our Golf Course from the Clubhouse go to waste, so we’re opening it up as a Private Function Centre. The Toronto Country Club will be available for all private, business, celebration and presentation functions. We understand the level of service and perfection that Lisa upheld with all her private functions and we intend on carrying that accomplishment forward.

img_2579With the hire of the Toronto Country Club Function Centre we will provide you with exceptional menus, drink packages, entertainment and decoration assistance, room setup, friendly staff and a fully qualified Chef to ensure your function is perfect in every way.

For further details about the Toronto Country Club Function Centre visit the Club Website.

We wish Lisa, her family and her staff all the very best in their future adventures. We look forward to seeing where Lisa “pops” up from here.

Women’s Bowls: CHAMPIONS

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Women of Toronto Workers Women’s Bowling Club are nothing short of exceptional. A team of four; made up by Nancy McKew (skip), Trudy Richens (3rd), Kate Hardcastle (2nd) and Beryl Lindon (1st) recently entered the Open 4’s as part of the District Competition. Let’s just say these ladies proved they had what it took and were crowned winners.

This win led them to challenge team Wyong (Central Coast District Winners) at Halekulani Bowling Club in the Region 6 Championship. This game was a close call. After 21 ends (for all you non-bowlers, this signifies the end of a game), Wyong & Toronto were drawn. This took the game into an extra end.

The extra end saw the Women of Toronto triumphant, claiming the title of Open 4’s Region 6 Champions.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

With this title, our ladies will travel to Tuncurry Bowling Club in October to take on the State Playoffs.

To date, title of “Open 4’s Region 6 Champions” is the highest achievement for the Toronto Workers Women’s Bowling Club.

We would like to congratulate our representatives in this achievement, as we understand the amount of mental and physical pressure that is placed upon these women when playing at such a level. We are extremely proud of their efforts and wish them luck for October.

We’re cheering on our ladies, to bring home the State Title. There’s nothing that can stop them now.
