Visiting Vets Warmed by Event Success

DSC00162With a glowing reference by John Daly, Executive Councillor for New South Wales Veteran Golfers Association, Narene Anniwell coordinated a memorable and personalised Veterans Week of Golf at Toronto Country Club.

In the middle of a June winter, 131 Veteran Golfers from 38 NSW Golf Club attended Toronto Country Club warmed by a welcoming fire pit on meet & greet day and undeterred by 18mm of rain leading into the opening tee on Monday 24 June 2019. Over five consecutive days, visiting golfers from all over NSW travelled to Toronto to test the waters of the freshly revived event now known as the Lake Macquarie Classic Veteran’s Week of Golf.

DSC00267Nareen Anniwell, Louise Ciscato and Linda Woolard coordinated a memorable event that included several points of difference to warm, welcome, challenge and excite visiting players.

Veterans golf is open to women golfers who are 50 years and older and men who are 55 years and older. NSW Veteran’s Golf Events are held throughout and all over NSW with the aim for visiting golfers (near and far) to play in competitions outside of their home club while enjoying the tour travel at the same time. Events are arranged with a tour map in mind, so travelling golfers can plan their trips by participating in competitions and tournaments as they travel up the coastline. Many with their caravans and campervans as their mode of transport and accommodation.

DSC00266“I wanted to give my home club the ability to show off its course, food, service and wonderful staff to everyone who visits the club. I cannot thank Kaycee and her staff, Halina, Jackson, Simon and Bruce enough, for the delivery of excellent service, understanding and patience as I put together my first ever event as a Tournament Director.

“With a few critiques and lessons learnt along the way, we are definitely ready to bring an even bigger and better Lake Macquarie Classic to the Club in 2020”, said Narene.

Cheese platters, house-made soup, fresh sandwiches and delicious sweets were the favourites of the week. “Comments and compliments were given all around for the food Kaycee and her team provided us with and we couldn’t have been happier”, praised Narene.

Based on the success of the event, John Daley has advised Narene that the Toronto Country Club Lake Macquarie Classic event for 2020 will be the start of the coastline tournament tour leading into the events at Nambucca, Sawtell, Maclean Valley, Ballina and locations.
