Lisa’s Last Hurrah

lisas-logo_rgbThis week we say goodbye to a member of the Toronto Country Club family, Lisa.

I met with Lisa and her son Dan for lunch for the final time. Throughout Lisa’s time at the Country Club she has made some wonderful friends, catered many perfect private functions and golf presentations and delivered fresh food for lunch and dinner, with her gluten free desserts being a favourite among many.

While chatting with Lisa it was evident that she will miss the “homely” feeling the Country Club hosts and is sad to be leaving.

“I’m looking forward to taking some time out for myself and having some fun adventures with Dan”, said Lisa. While Lisa has had many offers and may open up another business, for now, she’s going to enjoy leisure time with the family.

While this is a sad time for all of us who have come to know and love Lisa, Darryl, Dan, Jo and ‘Lisa’s at Toronto Country Club’, it is also a time to celebrate with Lisa one last time.

img_2575Lisa will cater her final dinner at the Country Club on Saturday 5 November 2016. With her “last hurrah” coming up, we recommend booking in advance. Lunch and dinner service times are available for Lisa’s last day. To make a reservation, please phone the Club on (02) 49591584.

So where to from here? Well, we can’t let the perfect view of our Golf Course from the Clubhouse go to waste, so we’re opening it up as a Private Function Centre. The Toronto Country Club will be available for all private, business, celebration and presentation functions. We understand the level of service and perfection that Lisa upheld with all her private functions and we intend on carrying that accomplishment forward.

img_2579With the hire of the Toronto Country Club Function Centre we will provide you with exceptional menus, drink packages, entertainment and decoration assistance, room setup, friendly staff and a fully qualified Chef to ensure your function is perfect in every way.

For further details about the Toronto Country Club Function Centre visit the Club Website.

We wish Lisa, her family and her staff all the very best in their future adventures. We look forward to seeing where Lisa “pops” up from here.

Happy 98th Birthday Sadie!

ClubsNSW recently released an article illustrating how Clubs can help you live longer (read it here). So, I jumped into our database and did a search. It was here I found Sadie Williams. The Oldest Active Member of the Toronto Workers Club Group.

Here’s a little about Sadie…

Sadie’s husband originally joined in the late 60’s and would bring her down to the Workers Club to socialise, Sadie fell in love with the Club and joined in 1970. Sadie has been an active club member ever since.

Sadie would and still comes to the Club to meet friends and family on social occasions, special celebrations and just to enjoy a day out of the house. Sadie was pleased to inform me that her only destination when she leaves the house these days is The Workers Club.

Over the last 36 years Sadie has built strong connections and relationships with Club staff and members. Sadie was quick to tell me a marvellous story, where she remembers knitting booties for Beverley’s (staff member) wedding gift many many years ago. It’s a story that Sadie said she’ll never forget and it warmed my heart to feel the love and happiness that Sadie expressed revisiting that memory.

IMG_1766Sadie celebrated her 98th Birthday on Monday 25 July. As a gesture of love and appreciation for Sadie, the Club hosted a Morning Tea to celebrate her 98th Birthday. Friends and Family of Sadie’s were invited to attend and celebrate Sadie’s fabulous achievement. Pink and lilac decorations brightened the room, a fresh sponge cake awaited the birthday song and our function staff were on hand to ensure Sadie enjoyed every moment.

Sadie may be handling heart conditions and rheumatoid arthritis, but the happiness and love she has forIMG_1775 her family, friends and Club staff is more apparent than her challenges. Sadie assured me that she doesn’t allow these issues to disrupt her visits to the Club or meet with friends and family for social occasions.

It was my pleasure to meet Sadie, her Grandson Craig and family and friends and hear some of the memories that Sadie has created while being a member of the Club. Sadie will continue to charm Club staff with her wit and character each time she comes to visit.
